WHY DO I TEACH YOGA?
I love to share the practice of yoga because yoga improved every aspect of my life. The night of my first yoga class was the first night in three years that I had slept. My insomnia resulted from our sweet 18 month old baby girl, Caitlin, being diagnosed with a rare and life threatening cancer. Today, 17 years later, Caitlin is a healthy, beautiful young woman for which I am profoundly grateful. However, those first few years I was coming to terms with the nightmare our family had endured. I continued going to yoga class because I was afraid the sleepless nights and exhausting days would return. That was the first step in my journey of learning the importance of taking care of myself.
I had a longing to learn more about this thing called "yoga" that literally improved every aspect of my life. Things like better sleep, less headaches, better balance, strength, and moods. In 2009 I enrolled in an intense eleven month long teacher training which involved commuting six hours! I have continued my training and education by focusing on tools that enable us to handle stress better as well as improve our energy level. As a former middle school science teacher and a wife of a police officer, I understand and appreciate how stressful daily interactions and responsibilities can be. The good news is that there are simple tools and practices that can help us manage the daily stress and improve our health. Having a joy filled life is possible.
I am an experienced certified hatha yoga (E-RYT), Sacred Geometry Energy Medicine (level II), Divine Sleep® Yoga Nidra guide and Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga teacher. I have over 3,500 hours teaching experience helping students manage stress, Alzheimer’s, dementia, PTSD, MS, Parkinson’s, anxiety, schizophrenia, bi-polar, ADHD, and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. I continue to be amazed daily by the power of breath, body awareness, touch, humor and movement.
I want everyone to experience the benefits of yoga. I believe that everyone can do yoga no matter their age, size, schedule, or physical abilities. It's possible to flourish in our lives!
